Choosing a final resting place

Once the cremation service has taken place you will need to make a decision on where you would like the ashes laid to rest.

At the time of arranging the cremation service families often give the funeral director instructions for the laying to rest of the ashes.

If you are unsure of what you plan to do with the ashes, you do not have to rush into making your decision, most crematoria realise the importance of allowing you sufficient time to make this important decision and will therefore continue to care for the ashes at the crematorium.

Gardens of remembrance

The majority of people choose to have the ashes laid to rest in a crematorium garden of remembrance.

These are tranquil garden settings designed for quiet thought and reflection while also reflecting the interests and characteristics of those commemorated within it.

Laying ashes to rest elsewhere

While most people choose to have the ashes placed in gardens of remembrance others prefer to have the ashes laid to rest in a family grave in a churchyard or cemetery. If you want to place the ashes elsewhere, you will need the permission of the landowner.

The funeral director can arrange for the ashes to be sent to another part of the UK. If you want them sent to another country, there may be a small fee to cover legal paperwork.
